Boquete authorities reinforce drainage system to prevent floods

Authorities in Boquete are undertaking significant work to overhaul the district's pluvial drainage system, aiming to mitigate flooding during the upcoming rainy season. The Ministry of Public Works, in collaboration with local officials, is actively implementing a new water management system.

Boquete Mayor Eduardo Rodríguez explained that heavy rainfall from the upper El Salto region has overwhelmed existing channels, causing flooding. The new system is designed to effectively channel this water towards the Caldera River. Resident Santos Ortega expressed appreciation for the work, hoping it will prevent future flood damage.

The project is integrated into the broader rehabilitation of the Alto Boquete–Caldera–Puente Los Valles road, which is currently 89% complete. Officials anticipate the drainage improvements will be finished in the coming months, reducing the risk of overflow from the Caldera River and the collapse of nearby sewer and stream systems.

The initiative is a crucial step in protecting the community from the impacts of heavy rainfall, ensuring greater safety and stability for residents during periods of intense weather.
