Borno shuts school, relocates students after insurgent attack

The Borno State Government has taken immediate safety measures by temporarily closing Government Day Secondary School in Mussa and relocating its students following the abduction of 42 individuals by suspected insurgents. The affected students will now continue their education at Government Secondary School, Uba, a move aimed at ensuring their safety in a more secure environment.

As part of immediate safety measures under the Safe Schools Initiative, the commissioner directed the temporary closure of Government Day Secondary School, Mussa, and approved its relocation to Government Secondary School, Uba, where students are expected to continue their education in safer, more secure conditions.

The decision was announced by the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Lawan Wakilbe, during a visit to the community. This action is part of the state's Safe Schools Initiative and follows an earlier sympathy visit by Governor Babagana Zulum. The governor had assured residents of the government's commitment to the safe return of the abducted students.

Before proceeding to Mussa, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ali Ibn Ismaila Mamza II, at his palace in Uba.

During an interactive session with parents, Wakilbe conveyed the government's sympathy and solidarity. He assured them that intensified efforts are underway for the students' rescue, reiterating the administration's commitment to prioritizing student safety across the state. Parents, while commending the governor's response, appealed for intensified efforts for the immediate release of their children, highlighting the severe emotional and psychological trauma the families are experiencing.

The delegation also visited Dille and Lassa communities to assess security and evaluate safety conditions in public schools.
