Bosnian fans turn banner upside down in protest after arrests

During the World Cup match between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canada in Toronto, fans of the Bosnian team staged a protest by turning their main banner upside down. This radical act of defiance occurred after two members of the fan group BH Fanaticos were arrested by Canadian police. The incident involved a confrontation between the fan group and stadium security before the match, leading to the detention of the two fans.

The Bosnian Embassy in Canada issued a statement regarding the situation. They reported contacting the police for explanations and attempting to speak with the detained individuals. However, the embassy stated that because the arrested fans, despite being of Bosnian origin, held German citizenship and possessed German documents, the embassy lacked the jurisdiction to provide consular assistance.

Toronto police issued a stern warning about fan behavior during the World Cup, emphasizing zero tolerance for misconduct. A message from the Toronto police association via social media cautioned citizens and visitors to behave responsibly, stating, "Never lay a hand on a police officer. You will be arrested. You will be charged. Our detention facilities do not have televisions. You will miss the game you came to enjoy."

The match itself ended in a 1-1 draw, with Cyle Larin scoring for Canada and Jovo Lukić for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina's next match is scheduled against Switzerland.
