Bougainville training focuses on electoral integrity awareness

A crucial five-day training initiative has commenced in Bougainville, bringing together journalists and civil society organizations to bolster awareness campaigns centered on electoral integrity. The program, which began Monday at the Kuri Resort Conference Room in Buka, aims to equip participants with the skills necessary to promote transparent and fair electoral processes.

The training, scheduled from August 24 to 28, 2026, is a key component of the European Union-funded project titled 'Preventing and Countering Corruption in Papua New Guinea.' This initiative underscores the EU's commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and combating corruption within the region.

By fostering collaboration between media professionals and civil society groups, the program seeks to enhance public understanding of electoral integrity. This, in turn, is expected to contribute to more accountable and trustworthy elections in Bougainville, a region with a history of electoral challenges.
