Boxer Hannah Rapp struck and killed in Texas; driver arrested

The boxing community is mourning the loss of rising star Hannah Rapp, who was fatally struck by a vehicle in Texas over the weekend. The incident occurred near Navasota in Brazos County when deputies responded to a report of a bicyclist down on the roadway.

Deputies found the 26-year-old Rapp lying on the road, with initial investigations suggesting a vehicle had hit her. First responders provided immediate medical care before transporting her to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The Brazos County Sheriff's Office stated that Rapp and another cyclist were on the road when 31-year-old Charles Medina drove past them.

According to the sheriff's office, Medina then stopped his vehicle, shifted into reverse, and struck Rapp. He was subsequently arrested and charged with manslaughter. Brazos County is located approximately 80 miles northwest of Houston.

Rapp, who had challenged for the World Boxing Council's featherweight championship in June, was considered an exceptional talent. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman expressed heartbreak over her death, calling her an "invaluable member of our boxing family." The World Boxing Association also shared a tribute, extending condolences to her family and friends.

Rapp, originally from Indiana, had moved to the area in 2024. She had been boxing for less than five years and balanced her training with a job at Texas A&M University.
