Boy allegedly takes his mother's car while she is on holiday and crashes on A9

A 15-year-old allegedly took his mother's car while she was on holiday and crashed on the A9 near Allershausen in Bavaria, seriously injuring his 16-year-old passenger.

Police said the teenager was drunk and under the influence of cannabis when he moved directly from the right lane to the far-left lane after entering the motorway. He allegedly failed to see another car driven by a 61-year-old man.

The force of the collision sent the older driver's car about 500 meters farther along the road before it stopped. The teenager did not have a driving license, according to police.

Paramedics took the injured passenger, the teenager and the 61-year-old driver to hospital. The teenager and the other driver suffered minor injuries. Police informed the parents of the two teenagers. It remained unclear whether the mother knew her son had taken her car. Investigators are examining the teenager on suspicion of negligent bodily harm and endangering road traffic.
