Božinović Responds to Milanović: Personal Attacks Mean Lack of Arguments

Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Davor Božinović on Monday defended the government's actions, stating that all its moves are aimed at protecting national interests and Croatia's international standing. He asserted that personal attacks detract from public discourse and do not serve anyone's purpose.

All that we are doing is for the protection of national interests, the progress of the Croatian economy, that is, everything that is most important to our citizens. And these personal disqualifications do not benefit anyone and that is not our way. Our way is to protect the national interest, but also to protect the Constitution and laws, because that is important.

Božinović's remarks came in response to President Zoran Milanović's earlier criticisms. Milanović had questioned Božinović's comments on the conduct of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Tihomir Kundid, during a military parade in Paris. The President pointed out that members of the Lučko Anti-Terrorist Unit participated in the parade under the orders of the Minister of the Interior and suggested Božinović should not comment on the Chief of Staff's actions.

When these personal disqualifications occur, they usually mean there are no arguments. When we talk about what we are doing, everything we undertake is to care about Croatia's international reputation.

Responding to the criticism, Božinović suggested that personal attacks often arise from a lack of arguments. He stressed that the government's focus is on safeguarding Croatia's international reputation, a goal pursued since the country's efforts to join the EU and NATO over 30 years ago. He highlighted that these efforts benefit all citizens, not just politicians.

Americans use Ukrainian experts for their needs. Germany, Sweden, France, the Baltic countries have Ukrainian instructors for the development of air defense, anti-ballistic defense against these types of missiles, anti-drone protection, so they learn from the best.

Božinović also addressed Milanović's comments on his political career, suggesting they were an attempt to divert attention from key issues. He drew parallels with other nations, such as the United States, Germany, Sweden, and France, which he said utilize foreign experts for their defense needs, including air and missile defense. He also urged for the upcoming commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the military-police operation "Oluja" to pass without accusations or unnecessary tensions.
