Brøndby captain blunders in draw in season opener against AGF

Brøndby captain Luis Binks' late, unnecessary penalty conceded proved costly as his team drew 1-1 with AGF in their Superliga season opener. The late equalizer denied Brøndby a winning start under new coach Thomas Nørgaard, who otherwise saw a promising performance from his side.

The match at Ceres Park Vejlby was an entertaining and back-and-forth affair, with chances for both teams. AGF, having lost key players like Felix Beijmo, Henrik Dalsgaard, and Patrick Mortensen in the offseason, struggled to assert dominance. Mortensen, who returned to Brøndby, started the match but was unable to make a decisive impact.

Brøndby's usual goalkeeper Patrick Pentz was absent due to the birth of his child, giving 19-year-old William Sonne-Schmidt a start. The young keeper made several good saves, including one on AGF's Gift Links, though he also made a mistake that gifted Links another chance, which the South African failed to convert.

In the second half, Brøndby took the lead after a corner kick. Bartosz Slisz scored for the visitors, seemingly putting them on track for a win. However, with less than ten minutes remaining, Binks' foul inside the penalty area, after a duel with AGF's Tobias Bech, led to the decisive penalty. AGF captain Kristian Arnstad calmly converted the spot-kick, securing a point for his team and avoiding a second defeat in a week, following their Champions League qualifier loss.
