Brad Lander defeats Rep. Goldman in NY-10 Democratic primary, CBS News projects

Brad Lander has secured the Democratic nomination in New York's 10th Congressional District, defeating two-term incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman. The race, covering Lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn, was seen as a key contest for progressive Democrats in the city.

Lander's victory was bolstered by endorsements from prominent progressive figures, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. As the district's Working Families Party nominee, Lander positioned himself as a champion against corporate influence, criticizing Goldman for not adequately challenging wealthy special interests.

My real beef with [Goldman] is that he's not taking on the wealthy special interests and billionaires that have brought Trump in the first place.

Conversely, Goldman entered the primary with support from more moderate Democrats, including Gov. Kathy Hochul and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. The former federal prosecutor emphasized his legislative efforts, such as the "Robin Hood Act," aimed at increasing taxes on billionaires like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk. He also highlighted his work on immigration issues, including efforts to free unlawfully detained immigrants and confronting ICE agents.

Both candidates actively campaigned on issues related to immigration policy. Lander recounted his own arrest by ICE agents while observing immigration court proceedings. Goldman questioned the federal government's approach to deporting immigrants and pointed to his work advocating for detained individuals.
