Brazil Elections: When to Vote for President in 2026

Brazil's presidential elections are slated for Sunday, October 4, 2026, with the potential for a second-round runoff on October 25 if no candidate secures a majority. The election will determine the country's next president and vice president for a four-year term.

Electronic voting machines will be used for the election. These machines consist of two terminals: one for electoral authority to identify and authorize voters, and another for the voter to cast their ballot, which may include biometric verification in some models.

Recent polling indicates a highly competitive race. A Nexus/BTG Pactual survey conducted between July 31 and August 2 shows Lula Da Silva and Flavio Bolsonaro in a technical tie, each with 46% and 45% of voter intention, respectively. This represents a significant shift from previous polls where Da Silva held a four-point lead.

Other candidates trailing in the polls include former Goiás governor Ronaldo Caiado with 5%, Renan Santos with 4%, and Romeu Zema with 3%. The election outcome remains uncertain as the campaign progresses.
