Brazil's Maracana to Host 2027 Women's World Cup Opener and Final

Brazil's legendary Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro is set to be the stage for the opening match and the grand final of the 2027 Women's World Cup.

The tournament, featuring 32 teams, will commence on June 24, heralding a historic moment as South America hosts the Women's World Cup for the first time. The Maracana, a venue steeped in football history and famously the site of Brazil's 1950 men's World Cup final loss, will also host the championship match on July 25.

FIFA has confirmed that all eight host cities will play a significant role, with each city guaranteed to host at least seven matches and a minimum of one knockout game. Cities like Brasilia, Porto Alegre, Recife, and Salvador will host matches up to the round of 16. Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Rio de Janeiro, and Sao Paulo are slated to host the quarter-final matches.

Looking ahead to the final stages, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro will host the semi-final clashes. The Maracana will join an elite group of stadiums, becoming only the third venue globally to host both a men's and women's World Cup final.
