Breaking: Badejo-Okusanya Emerges NBA’s New National President

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has been elected the new National President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), marking a significant moment as she becomes the second woman to head the umbrella body of lawyers in the country. Her victory follows an election held between July 18 and 19, 2026.

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) declared Badejo-Okusanya the winner on Sunday morning. She secured 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 percent of the total votes cast for the presidential position. Her closest rival, Mr. Lateef Akangbe, SAN, received 7,934 votes, while consensus candidate Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, garnered 5,855 votes.

Out of 82,172 registered voters, 26,184 participated in the overall election, with 26,106 casting ballots for the presidential candidates. Badejo-Okusanya's election makes her the second female president of the NBA, succeeding Dame Priscilla Olabori Kuye, who served from 1991 to 1992. Dame Kuye has been a vocal advocate for increased female leadership within the legal profession.

Other national officers elected include Oghenero Okoro as First Vice President, Afam Okeke as General Secretary, Aghogho Gladys as Assistant General Secretary, and Chinelo Audrey Ofoegbunam as Welfare Secretary, among other successful candidates.
