BREAKING: Jigawa governor appoints new Emir of Gumel

Lawan Muhammad-Sani has been appointed the 17th Emir of Gumel by Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, succeeding his late father, Ahmed Muhammad-Sani.

Ahmed Muhammad-Sani died on Thursday, 3 September, after spending 46 years on the throne. The new emir's appointment came through a formal statement signed by Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government.

The state government said Namadi acted on recommendations from the Gumel Emirate Council kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs. The kingmakers were chaired by the Wazirin Gumel, Adamu Nasoro, while the council includes the emirs of Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim and Dutse.

Before taking the throne, Muhammad-Sani held the traditional title of Chiroman Gumel and served as Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency. Namadi praised the traditional authorities for guiding the selection process and wished the new emir a peaceful, successful and impactful reign in service of the Gumel Emirate and Nigeria.
