Kim Min-seok has solidified his lead in the Democratic Party of Korea's leadership race, securing a crucial victory in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regional primaries.

The results from the final regional contest, held at the Suwon Sports Complex, showed Kim garnering 46.66% of the combined vote. His closest rival, Jeong Cheong-rae, received 46.28%, with Song Young-gil securing 7.05%. The margin between Kim and Jeong in the Seoul-Gyeonggi leg was a narrow 0.38 percentage points, highlighting a closely contested battle.

Song focused on regaining support from voters in their 20s and 30s, apologizing for the party's past neglect of this demographic and promising to support their dreams for the future.

The final results of the Democratic Party's national convention will be determined on August 17, combining public opinion polls and delegate votes. Public opinion surveys conducted on August 14-15 will account for 30% of the final tally, while delegates, though a small fraction of the electorate, typically show higher turnout than party members.
