Breaking: Luke Gosling stands aside as special envoy for defence and veterans' affairs

Federal Labor MP Luke Gosling will temporarily step aside from his role as special envoy for defense, veterans' affairs, and Northern Australia as he faces charges of assault and breach of bail. The member for Solomon was recently charged with violating his bail conditions, less than a month after being accused of two counts of assault in an alleged incident involving Northern Territory Administrator David Connolly.

Gosling's bail conditions reportedly include a restriction from approaching within 50 meters of NT Government House and a requirement to provide 48 hours' notice before attending events where Connolly might be present. If they attend the same event, Gosling must maintain a distance of 15 meters from the administrator.

However, due to the ongoing media attention and the distraction this is causing to the business of government, I have decided to temporarily stand aside as Special Envoy for Defence, Veterans' Affairs and Northern Australia until these matters have been heard.

Gosling has vehemently denied all allegations and stated he will vigorously defend himself in court. However, he decided to temporarily step aside from his special envoy position to avoid distracting from government business due to the ongoing media scrutiny. The Administrator's office declined to comment on the bail breach charge, deferring to the police.
