[Breaking] 'Severe Heatwave Warning' expanded to all of Seoul from west and southeast

South Korea is facing an intensifying heatwave, prompting authorities to expand severe heat warnings to cover the entire Seoul metropolitan area and other regions. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced on July 4th that the 'Severe Heatwave Warning' has been extended to cover all of Seoul, as well as parts of Gyeonggi Province and Jeonbuk Province. This alert signifies a critical level of heat danger, issued when the highest temperature is forecast to reach 39°C or the highest perceived temperature is expected to hit 38°C.

Previously, severe heatwave warnings were in effect for southwestern and southeastern Seoul, and specific areas in Gyeonggi and Gwangju. The expansion means more residents are now under the highest level of heat advisory. The KMA's decision reflects the persistent and dangerous temperatures gripping the nation, with the public urged to take extreme precautions.

In addition to the severe warnings, 'Heatwave Advisories' have been issued for numerous other locations. These advisories are put in place when the highest perceived temperature is expected to exceed 35°C for two or more consecutive days. Affected areas include cities and counties within Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Jeollanam-do, Incheon, and Sejong. This widespread issuance of advisories highlights the pervasive nature of the current heatwave across much of the Korean peninsula.

The public is advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable individuals. The extreme temperatures pose significant health risks, including heatstroke and exhaustion, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely for any further developments or potential impacts on public services and infrastructure.
