Johnny Young, the beloved host and creator of the iconic Australian children's show "Young Talent Time," has passed away at the age of 79. His family announced his death, stating he succumbed after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

The show provided a platform for aspiring young performers, nurturing many careers that would go on to achieve national and international fame. Among the notable talents discovered were sisters Kylie and Dannii Minogue, as well as Tina Arena.

Beyond his work on "Young Talent Time," Young was also a successful singer in his own right. He achieved an Australian number one hit with his song "Step Back" before embarking on his television career. He also wrote and produced several hit songs, including "The Real Thing" and "Smiley."

Young's family released a statement remembering him as the creator, host, and producer of the much-loved show. They also noted his songwriting achievements. He is survived by his wife Marisha, his sister Cornelia, his daughters Anna and Fleur, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Craig.
