Bristol Myers Squibb to Build $2.3 Billion Drug Manufacturing Campus in Houston

Texas is set to become a major hub for biopharmaceutical manufacturing with the announcement that Bristol Myers Squibb will establish a new campus in Houston. Governor Greg Abbott confirmed the investment, valued at approximately US$2.3 billion, which is poised to significantly boost the state's economy and specialized job market.

The new facility, slated for Generation Park, will span roughly 600,000 square feet and is designed with modularity in mind, allowing for future expansion and adaptation to evolving manufacturing requirements. It will be equipped to produce a diverse range of medicines, including small molecules, biologics, and antibody-drug conjugates, integrating advanced digital systems and automation for enhanced production capacity.

This significant investment is projected to generate nearly 500 specialized jobs upon its initial phase, encompassing roles for operations technicians, production specialists, maintenance and engineering professionals, and quality control experts. Furthermore, the construction and operational phases between 2027 and 2030 are anticipated to create an additional 2,000 direct and indirect jobs. This initiative is part of Bristol Myers Squibb's broader commitment to invest US$40 billion in the United States over five years across research, development, technology, and domestic manufacturing.

Bristol Myers Squibb's decision to locate in Houston was based on a comprehensive evaluation of sites across the central and eastern United States, with Texas offering compelling incentives. Christopher Boerner, the company's CEO, highlighted the investment as a reflection of confidence in American innovation and a strategic move to expand domestic manufacturing capabilities for a new generation of medicines.
