Britain's Hunt completes sprint double with 200m gold at Euro championships

Amy Hunt of Great Britain has achieved a remarkable sprint double at the European Athletics Championships, adding the 200-meter gold medal to her earlier 100-meter title. The 24-year-old athlete crossed the finish line in the 200m final with a time of 22.19 seconds, holding off a strong challenge from her competitors.

Hunt's victory in the 100m earlier in the week, where she clocked 11.00 seconds, set the stage for this impressive achievement. She now has the opportunity to complete a sprint quadruple if Great Britain performs well in the 4x100m relay and the mixed 4x100m relay events.

Ireland's Rhasidat Adeleke finished a close second in the 200m, securing the silver medal with a time of 22.28 seconds. Dina Asher-Smith, Hunt's training partner and compatriot, narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing just 0.01 seconds behind Adeleke, marking her seventh European Championships medal.

In other notable results, Ireland's Mark English, aged 33, made history by winning the men's 800-meter race in 1:45.26. This victory marks the first European Championships gold medal for an Irish athlete in this event. Croatia's Marino Bloudek claimed the silver medal, and Spain's Mohamed Attaoui secured the bronze.
