British cyclist Finlay Tarling, 19, dies in Tour of Portugal crash

British cyclist Finlay Tarling died at 19 years old during the Tour of Portugal after a serious accident on the eighth stage. Organizers confirmed his death, stating the young rider from the NSN Development Team was involved in a crash.

Portuguese broadcaster RTP reported the accident was a head-on collision with a vehicle that was not part of the race convoy. According to the newspaper A Bola, the driver of the vehicle allegedly disregarded official barriers. Organizers had not officially confirmed these details.

The stage was halted approximately 20 kilometers before the finish line. The award ceremony was canceled out of respect and grief, as announced by the event organizers. Tarling's team also confirmed his passing, extending condolences to his parents and brother, professional cyclist Joshua Tarling.

Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro expressed his condolences to Tarling's family and team, stating the incident "deeply shakes us."
