British military investigates alleged Russian warship shots fired at yacht in Channel

The British military is investigating claims that a Russian warship fired warning shots at a yacht in the English Channel, CNN reported. The UK's Ministry of Defence confirmed it is "investigating reports of an incident in the Channel."

Crew members of the UK-registered yacht alleged that a Russian naval vessel fired upon them approximately 20 miles south of the Isle of Wight, outside of British territorial waters. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or damage to the yacht itself.

The incident occurred just two days after British forces boarded and detained a sanctioned tanker in the Channel, suspected of being part of Russia's "shadow fleet." Officials have not yet linked these two events.

The captain of the detained tanker, an Indian national accused of transporting Russian oil in violation of international sanctions related to the war in Ukraine, was remanded in custody after appearing in court.
