Broadcaster Lee Hyuk-jae investigated after drunk-driving crash in Incheon

Broadcaster Lee Hyuk-jae is under police investigation after allegedly crashing into the back of a motorcycle while driving drunk in Incheon.

The crash occurred at about 10 p.m. the previous night on a road in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu District. Police allege that Lee struck a motorcycle waiting at a traffic signal, injuring its rider, a man in his 20s. The rider was reportedly not seriously hurt.

Lee’s blood alcohol concentration measured within the range that can lead to a license suspension, between 0.03% and 0.08% or higher, according to the report. Police said no one else was in the vehicle.

The Yeonsu Police Station booked Lee without detention on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act. A police official said, “Because the investigation is ongoing, we cannot disclose detailed information.”

Lee, who was pushed out of the broadcasting industry after incidents including the 2010 assault of a hostess at a room salon, was also listed in March as one of six judges, including the chair, for the People Power Party’s open audition for proportional youth candidates for metropolitan and provincial councils ahead of the June 3 local elections.
