Brussels Lobby Group 'Pool Is Cool' Enthusiastic About Flemish Plan for Open-Air Swimming, "But There Is No Place for It in Brussels"

Brussels' lobby group 'Pool Is Cool' has welcomed Flanders' initiative to allow open-air swimming, expressing excitement about the prospect of more accessible outdoor aquatic activities. The group, which champions urban swimming, sees this as a positive step towards enhancing recreational opportunities in public spaces.

Despite the enthusiasm for Flanders' policy, 'Pool Is Cool' highlights a significant hurdle for the capital region. Paul Steinbruck of the group stated that Brussels lacks the necessary space and water resources to implement similar open-air swimming regulations. This geographical and infrastructural limitation means the Flemish plan cannot be directly replicated in the Belgian capital.

"Brussel heeft ook te weinig water om zwemmen toe te laten," said Paul Steinbruck, indicating the core issue. The group's advocacy in Brussels thus faces a different set of challenges compared to Flanders. While celebrating the broader move towards outdoor swimming, 'Pool Is Cool' must continue to find innovative solutions tailored to the unique urban landscape of Brussels to promote its cause.
