Bucharest City Hall tenders modernization of Dimitrie Pompeiu Boulevard for over 256 million lei

Bucharest City Hall has announced the launch of a tender for the extensive modernization of Dimitrie Pompeiu Boulevard, a critical infrastructure project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the capital. The estimated value of the contract for the project, which includes design, technical assistance, and execution of works, stands at over 256 million lei (approximately $55 million USD).

Mayor General of Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu, highlighted the project as one of his top three priorities, stating it will radically transform one of the city's most congested areas. "Dimitrie Pompeiu is in an area frozen in time and traffic. But it will be transformed from a narrow street choked with cars, with one lane per direction and broken sidewalks, into a modern road with two lanes of traffic, green space, bicycle paths, a double tram line, and much more generous sidewalks," the mayor stated.

The project entails widening the boulevard and extending the tram infrastructure to connect with Bulevardul Barbu Văcărescu, integrating tram lines 16 and 36 with line 5. A pedestrian overpass will also be constructed. Additionally, a connecting road between Șoseaua Pipera, Dimitrie Pompeiu Boulevard, and Strada Fabrica de Glucoză is planned to further ease traffic in northern Bucharest.

Authorities have set July 28 as the deadline for bid submissions. The winning contractor will have 26 months from the order to commence work to complete the project, with the contract to be awarded based on the "best quality-price ratio" provided no appeals are filed.
