Bucharest Tram Line Construction Progresses, Deadline Uncertain

Construction on Bucharest's Dimitrie Pompeiu tram line is taking shape, with excavations nearing completion on Lot 6, a 5.3-kilometer stretch. Workers are now focused on relocating utility networks and building support walls, according to "Adevărul." The project aims to replace some of the city's most degraded tram lines.

The contract, valued at 217.3 million lei (excluding VAT), is being executed by the Tancrad – Construcții Erbașu association. The original completion deadline is March 2027. However, given the current pace and remaining work, meeting this target seems improbable.

After utility relocation, the next steps involve laying the foundation for the new track, installing rails and contact network poles, and reconstructing sidewalks and green spaces. The modernization is part of a broader initiative by the Bucharest City Hall to rehabilitate approximately 50 kilometers of tram infrastructure. So far, only Lot 3 has been completed and reopened.
