Buenos Aires braces for six days of rain, strong winds, and falling temperatures

The Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) is preparing for a week of significant weather instability, with forecasts predicting six consecutive days of rainfall accompanied by strong winds and a subsequent drop in temperatures. This shift is attributed to a high-pressure system altering the region's climate.

The transition began on Tuesday as winds shifted from the south, increasing humidity and cloud cover. Wednesday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a minimum temperature of 8°C and a maximum of 12°C, featuring a high probability of rain in the afternoon and wind gusts up to 50 km/h. Similar conditions are forecast for Thursday, with precipitation likely in the afternoon and evening, extending through the weekend.

While a slight improvement and a minor temperature increase to 14°C are anticipated by Friday, rain is expected to persist. The weekend will see maximum temperatures reaching 17°C, with easterly winds and humidity sustaining precipitation throughout Saturday and Sunday.

The extended forecast indicates that Monday, August 17, will also experience temperatures around 15°C with intermittent clear spells and significant rainfall. However, this respite will be short-lived, as a marked thermal decline is expected by Tuesday, with temperatures dropping to a minimum of 8°C and a maximum of 14°C, accompanied by continued rain. The National Meteorological Service has issued yellow and orange alerts for snow in parts of San Juan, La Rioja, and Catamarca due to the Zonda wind, and for snow in Chubut and Río Negro.
