Buenos Aires opens new Dellepiane highway collector roads to ease traffic

Buenos Aires has inaugurated the new southern collector road of the Dellepiane highway, completing a comprehensive renewal project for a major southern access point to the city. This significant infrastructure upgrade aims to alleviate traffic congestion in one of the capital's busiest areas.

The newly opened section features two lanes between Guaminí and José Ignacio Rucci streets, heading towards the city center. It also includes a new bus stop. City officials emphasized that this development eliminates a historic "bottleneck" that occurred where the highway's side roads previously terminated before reaching General Paz avenue.

This opening follows the recent inauguration of the northern collector road in Villa Lugano. That corridor provides two lanes between Timoteo Gordillo and Piedrabuena avenue, with traffic flowing towards General Paz avenue.

During the inauguration, Buenos Aires Mayor Jorge Macri highlighted the project's impact on daily commutes. "With the two new collector roads, we give continuity to a fundamental access in the south of the City and we give back time and tranquility to thousands of people who travel the area every day," he stated. The southern collector road also offers a direct access from Montiel street for traffic coming from the General Paz collector road and includes a connection from the highway itself. A new exit at Cosquín street provides access to Riestra avenue or the Río Negro bridge.

The project's primary goal was to resolve the historical discontinuity in traffic flow approaching General Paz avenue, caused by the presence of the Belgrano Sur railway lines and the Río Negro bridge. The construction of three new bridges was part of the solution. These works are part of a larger plan to transform the Dellepiane highway into Buenos Aires' first "park highway," incorporating mobility improvements, public transport reorganization, and new green spaces.
