Buenos Aires raises vehicle inspection fees and traffic fines from September 2026

Drivers in Buenos Aires city and province face higher traffic fines from September 2026, while the cost of mandatory vehicle inspections remains tied to earlier adjustments.

In Buenos Aires city, fines are calculated through Fixed Units, a reference value linked to the price of premium gasoline at an Automóvil Club Argentino service station. The unit rose from 949 pesos to 1,173 pesos and will remain at that level until March 1, 2027.

The most expensive city penalties include speeding, which ranges from 175,962 pesos to 4,692,320 pesos. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs carries fines of 175,962 to 2,346,160 pesos. Running a red light costs between 351,924 and 1,759,620 pesos, while driving without a license plate can cost 1,173,080 pesos.

Other city fines include 469,232 pesos for driving without a valid VTV inspection, 351,924 pesos for driving without insurance and 117,308 pesos for improper parking.

In Buenos Aires province, the Fixed Unit rose from 2,271 pesos to 2,281 pesos and will remain in force until the end of October. Provincial fines range from 684,300 to 2,281,000 pesos for driving under the influence and speeding, while improper parking, lack of insurance and missing or altered plates carry penalties of 114,050 to 228,100 pesos.

The VTV inspection costs 96,968.19 pesos for private vehicles and 36,459.72 pesos for motorcycles in the city. In the province, the rates have applied since January 16, after a 21.8 percent increase. Private vehicles weighing up to 2,500 kilograms pay 97,057.65 pesos, motorcycles pay 38,801 pesos, heavy vehicles pay 174,604 pesos, and trailers cost between 58,201 and 87,302 pesos depending on weight.
