Warren Buffett, the renowned investor and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, has directly addressed criticism of his Giving Pledge initiative, telling detractors they are free to leave.

Buffett stated in a recent CNBC interview that billionaires unhappy with the Giving Pledge should simply withdraw, emphasizing that the commitment is not legally binding. The Giving Pledge, launched in 2010 by Buffett, Bill Gates, and Melinda French Gates, encourages the world's wealthiest individuals to publicly commit to donating the majority of their fortunes to philanthropic causes. Over 200 billionaires have joined the pledge.

Although Thiel himself is not a signatory to the Giving Pledge, he has reportedly urged about a dozen billionaires who have pledged to reconsider their commitment. Thiel has claimed that most signatories he has spoken with regret their decision. He has also reportedly encouraged Elon Musk, a participant since 2012, to leave the pledge, citing concerns about Musk's wealth potentially flowing to progressive non-profits favored by Bill Gates.
