Building collapses after explosion in Fermo area, one dead and two injured

A building in Porto Sant'Elpidio, Fermo, collapsed at dawn following an explosion, with initial reports suggesting a gas cylinder may have been the cause. The incident occurred on Via Trentino.

Tragically, one person has died as a result of the collapse. Two other individuals were rescued and transported to hospitals. One was taken to Fermo hospital, while the other required transfer via air ambulance to Torrette hospital in Ancona.

The emergency services, including the 118 medical teams and firefighters, are currently on the scene. A young man was successfully extracted from the debris alive. However, firefighters are still searching for a woman who may be trapped in the rubble. Drones, search dogs, and excavators are being used in the extensive search and rescue operation.

The building housed two families. The deceased individual was part of one family, along with their elderly parents who were among the injured. The second family consisted of two people, including the young man rescued and the woman who is still unaccounted for.
