Bulgarian Revenue Agency inspects over 330 Black Sea businesses, finds irregularities in 100

Bulgaria's National Revenue Agency (NRA) has conducted extensive inspections of over 330 businesses along the popular Black Sea coast since June 29. The agency's efforts are aimed at ensuring compliance with tax regulations and labor laws, particularly during the peak tourist season.

During these inspections, irregularities were identified in approximately 100 of the businesses examined. The most common issues reported include the failure to issue receipts for transactions and discrepancies found in cash registers. These findings suggest a need for stricter oversight and adherence to financial reporting standards among some businesses operating in the region.

In addition to financial compliance, the NRA is also scrutinizing the employment of seasonal workers. The agency is verifying that these workers possess valid contracts and are adequately covered by social security contributions. This focus aims to protect workers' rights and ensure fair labor practices within the hospitality and service industries that rely heavily on seasonal staff.

The inspections are part of ongoing efforts by the Bulgarian authorities to maintain fiscal discipline and combat undeclared economic activity, especially in sectors prone to informal transactions. The results highlight areas where businesses need to improve their operational transparency and legal compliance.
