Burned-out building fragment in Baťa complex cannot be preserved, demolition to continue

The northeastern fragment of a burned building in Zlín’s former factory complex will not survive, despite efforts to preserve it as an authentic reminder of the site’s history and Baťa architecture.

Cream, working with prominent architects and artists and with heritage-support backing, had searched for a way to keep part of the structure standing. The aim was to retain a physical remnant of the building rather than erase it entirely.

An expert group concluded on Friday that the fragment could not be maintained safely. Demolition is scheduled to continue on Monday.
