Businessman sent to prosecutors for deepfake images of lawmaker Lee Eon-ju

A 60-year-old businessman has been handed over to prosecutors for allegedly creating and distributing sexually exploitative deepfake images of Lee Eon-ju, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea.

The suspect, identified only by his surname Gu, is accused of editing and uploading one sexually explicit deepfake image and three insulting images of Lee to social media on June 2. Lee subsequently filed a complaint with the police on June 3.

Police raided Gu's office on June 8 and are now investigating accounts that further disseminated the fabricated images across social media and online communities. Gu, who was a member of the Democratic Party, has been expelled from the party.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated that they are "thoroughly investigating criminal acts that destroy sexual humiliation and human dignity" and are actively working with relevant agencies to prevent secondary damage.
