Buyonga Vote Delayed As Bukomansimbi Polls Stay Peaceful

Bukomansimbi District experienced largely peaceful Local Council One (LC1) elections on Tuesday, as residents gathered to elect their village chairpersons using the lining-up voting system. While most villages conducted their elections without significant incidents, voting in Buyonga Town was rescheduled for Wednesday due to logistical issues.

At Bukoba Village in Bukomansimbi Town Council, the process began with voter verification, which experienced a brief interruption when several residents could not find their names on the register. Despite this, election officials proceeded with the exercise. Independent candidate Dorothy Nakiweewa emerged victorious in Bukoba Village, securing 396 votes against candidates from the NRM and NUP parties. Similarly, Bashir Kagimu, an independent candidate in Bukomansimbi Central, defeated the NRM candidate.

"I am very happy because the people have trusted and supported me. I thank them so much, and I promise to serve them diligently and ensure they benefit from government programmes," Kagimu stated after his victory. Other villages also saw successful elections, with John Ssemugenyi elected in Kyanakibi Village and Dodovic Lwankulanga winning in Lukuuku Village. Muhammad Kiruuta of the NRM was elected unopposed in Kyango Village, while NUP's Antonio Tebizigama Ojuku won in Kitwekyanjovu Village. Several other NRM candidates also secured unopposed wins or defeated rivals in various villages.

Following the elections, newly elected LC1 chairpersons presented their executive committees, which were approved by residents. Bukomansimbi District Electoral Commission Registrar Betty Kyomugereko confirmed that Buyonga Town was the only village where elections did not take place as scheduled.
