Buzău Mayor Hopes Veștea Government Will Not Pass Parliament

A prominent mayor from Romania's Social Democratic Party (PSD) has voiced strong opposition to the proposed government led by Adrian Veștea, expressing hope that Parliament will reject it. Constantin Toma, the mayor of Buzău, described the proposed cabinet as a "makeshift formation" whose members are not equipped to handle their assigned roles and will not benefit the country.

His comments come as the government faces a crucial parliamentary vote. Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta highlighted the political maneuvering required for the government's approval, stating that it cannot pass without the support of the AUR party. Ponta suggested that AUR leader George Simion holds the key to its investiture.

This is a formation that cannot help the country in any way, because it is a makeshift formation with people who I don't think will cope or are at the level of the nominated positions. I hope it doesn't pass.

The political landscape is further complicated by internal party dynamics, with reports indicating that the PNL party requested Veștea to re-list ministers who were formerly PNL members as "independent." The parliamentary session is scheduled to include debates and a vote on the government's investiture later in the evening, following committee hearings for the proposed ministers.
