BYD launches new 1,600km-range hybrid sedan in Argentina

Chinese automaker BYD, the top-selling brand in Argentina, has introduced the pre-sale of its Seal 5 DM-i, a plug-in hybrid sedan. This launch signifies BYD's debut in the Argentine sedan segment, expanding its local offerings which previously focused on fully electric and other plug-in hybrid models.

The Seal 5 DM-i is presented as a highly efficient option for the Argentine market, claiming a remarkable combined autonomy of up to 1,600 kilometers under the NEDC cycle. Its declared fuel consumption is a mere 3.7 liters per 100 kilometers, making it the plug-in hybrid with the longest range currently available in Argentina. The sedan measures 4.78 meters in length, 1.83 meters in width, and 1.51 meters in height, with a trunk capacity of 522 liters that can be expanded to 1,295 liters with the rear seats folded.

Connectivity is a key feature, with the BYD App allowing users to monitor vehicle information such as fuel level, location, and status directly from their smartphones. Bernardo Fernández Paz, commercial director of BYD Argentina, stated that the Seal 5 DM-i is designed for users seeking efficiency, ample space, connectivity, and flexibility for both city driving and longer journeys. He added that its arrival marks BYD's entry into the sedan segment and broadens the company's product portfolio in the country.

While the final price and detailed technical specifications are yet to be fully disclosed, the pre-sale for the BYD Seal 5 DM-i has commenced in Argentina. A deposit of US$500, or its peso equivalent, is required to reserve the vehicle. This move by BYD aims to extend its Super Hybrid DM-i technology to a wider range of consumers and strengthen its market presence.
