Ca Mau Establishes Năm Căn Ward, Bolstering Coastal Economic Zone Focused on Logistics and Marine Industries

Năm Căn township in Vietnam's Ca Mau province has officially become a ward, marking a significant step in its urbanization and strategic coastal development. The provincial People's Council approved the establishment of Năm Căn ward, solidifying its role as a key center within the Năm Căn economic zone.

This administrative change reflects the area's rapid growth in port operations, logistics, and marine-based economies. The new ward encompasses over 70.2 square kilometers and a population of 31,170, maintaining existing administrative boundaries for stability. The transition from a commune to a ward underscores the increasing need for urban management as Năm Căn evolves from a coastal residential area into a vital hub for trade, seafood processing, and related services.

Năm Căn now meets the criteria for ward establishment, boasting a population density and economic structure indicative of an urban center. With 81.36% of its population living in urbanized areas and an equivalent percentage engaged in non-agricultural work, the township's economy is shifting. Aquaculture, which occupies 77.41% of agricultural land, remains a strong base, but commerce, services, and transportation are gaining prominence.

Average incomes in Năm Căn reached 85.3 million Vietnamese dong per person in 2025, surpassing the provincial average. Strategically located on the Ho Chi Minh Highway and connected to the developing Ca Mau-Dat Mui expressway, Năm Căn benefits from excellent land and water transport links. Its network of rivers, coastal access, and shipping channels positions it as a crucial logistics node on the southern coastal corridor.
