Cabinet Declares Four Killed in Sunsari, Siraha Violence as Martyrs

Nepal's government has officially recognized four individuals who lost their lives during recent violent incidents in the Sunsari and Siraha districts as martyrs. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.

The individuals granted martyr status are Omprakash Mehta, Jayprakash Mehta, and Rabindra Kumar Mehta, all from Sunsari, and Ganesh Kumar Yadav from Siraha. The clashes in which they died took place on July 26 in Kaptanganj, Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3, Sunsari, where Omprakash Mehta died at the scene. Jayprakash and Rabindra Kumar Mehta succumbed to their injuries later while receiving treatment. In a separate incident on July 27, Ganesh Kumar Yadav was killed during a confrontation in Golbazar, Siraha.

In addition to this humanitarian recognition, the Cabinet also approved several other decisions. These include a full exemption from clean infrastructure development fees and value-added tax for electric ambulances and hearses manufactured or imported into Nepal. Portugal's request to establish a consular office in Kathmandu was also approved. Furthermore, Niramal Kumar Upreti was appointed as the executive director of the Foreign Employment Board, and the Cabinet decided to make public a report concerning the investigation and study of NSDL/Ncell share transactions from 2024.
