Cabinet to meet under Erdoğan with terrorism-free Türkiye process and housing plan on agenda

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will chair a Cabinet meeting in Beştepe, with the terrorism-free Türkiye process, social housing and regional developments expected to dominate the agenda.

The government is accelerating work on a social housing project intended to protect lower-income households across Turkey and curb rent increases. Officials are expected to clarify the application requirements for a package of 15,000 rental homes reserved for Istanbul. Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum previously said applications would begin in September.

The meeting is also expected to review the latest stage of the terrorism-free Türkiye process. A Monitoring and Evaluation Board chaired by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz held its first meeting on Aug. 24 and decided to establish four subcommittees. Their work covers judicial and legal coordination, monitoring and assessment, social cohesion and integration, and disarmament and strategic coordination. Cabinet members are expected to receive an update on developments in the field.

Foreign-policy discussions will include regional developments and the continuing war between Russia and Ukraine. Erdoğan’s recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit is also expected to be discussed.

The Cabinet is expected to examine the latest situation in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the economic and strategic effects on Turkey of clashes involving the United States and Iran that have pushed up oil prices. Economic developments will also be reviewed following the announcement of the government’s three-year targets and its Medium-Term Program.
