Cable & Wireless responds to Comptroller: clarifies Spiegel hiring, confirms audit cooperation

Cable & Wireless Panamá (CWP) has officially responded to the Comptroller General's announcement of a forensic audit, affirming its complete willingness to cooperate with the authorities. As a company with 49% state ownership, CWP stated it fully respects the Comptroller's oversight powers and has provided all requested documentation openly and transparently since the audit began.

The company specifically addressed public questions regarding the hiring of Julio and Manuel Spiegel. CWP emphasized a crucial chronological fact: both professionals joined the company in 2014 as a direct result of the commercial acquisition of the Sonitel Group, under a legal framework of employer substitution. This occurred five years before the current constitutional term began in 2019.

CWP clarified that this incorporation was part of a publicly announced corporate transaction that brought over 350 technology specialists into CWP. The company stressed that these hires were not based on family or political connections. Julio Spiegel continued his tenure until January 2023, and Manuel Spiegel remained with the firm until June 2025.

Cable & Wireless Panamá expressed confidence that an objective review of the timeline and documentation will clarify the issues raised. The company requested that the audit be allowed to conclude and be based on verifiable evidence, highlighting its 29 years of continuous operation in Panama.
