Cache of Weapons Found in Fan Bus Ahead of Match; 7 Detained

Authorities have taken action against individuals attempting to bring illicit items to a football match, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining order and safety at sporting events. During pre-match security checks around the Kocaeli Stadium, police intercepted a bus transporting Göztepe A.Ş. fans. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a significant quantity of prohibited items, highlighting a concerning trend of fans attempting to smuggle dangerous materials into stadiums.

The discovery included 80 flares cleverly concealed within a drum, alongside an additional 16 flares, 130 fireworks, and a smoke bomb. Beyond pyrotechnics, the search also yielded a disturbing array of weapons, including eight throwing knives, a large cleaver, 13 other knives, and a butterfly knife. This arsenal suggests a level of premeditation and intent that goes beyond typical fan behavior, raising serious concerns about potential violence.

In response to these findings, legal proceedings have been initiated against seven individuals under Law No. 6222, which governs violations related to sporting events. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities reviewing camera footage to identify any other individuals involved in this incident.
