Cali MIO bus accident injures motorcyclist, knocks down utility pole

A bus from Cali's MIO mass transit system was involved in a significant traffic accident on August 24, resulting in a utility pole being knocked down and a motorcyclist injured. The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Transversal 25 and Calle 28, near the Santa Mónica station.

The articulated bus, identified as MC 31037 and belonging to the ETM concessionaire, was en route to the Santa Mónica station to begin its assigned route. Consequently, the bus was empty of passengers at the time of the collision. The bus driver was unharmed.

The motorcyclist involved received prompt medical attention from private ambulance paramedics at the scene. Preliminary reports from health authorities indicate that the motorcyclist's injuries are not serious. Authorities from the Secretariat of Mobility in Cali confirmed the motorcyclist received timely medical care.

Following the incident, both Metrocali and the Mayor's Office initiated protocols to gather evidence, including testimonies and recordings, to determine the exact causes of the crash. Metrocali stated it would closely monitor the case and take appropriate legal and corrective measures once the traffic investigations are complete.
