Cameroon's National Youth Policy allocates 386.1 billion CFA francs for 2025-2030

Cameroon's government is mobilizing stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of its new National Youth Policy (PNJ) for 2025-2030, a comprehensive plan backed by an envelope of 386.1 billion CFA francs.

The policy aims to place youth at the center of public action, addressing critical concerns such as education, unemployment, professional integration, and empowerment. A key focus is on prioritizing the acquisition of practical skills relevant to employment over purely theoretical training. The government also intends to integrate youth-led initiatives into national value chains and foster civic responsibility as a pathway for integration and citizen participation.

To ensure collective ownership and better coordination of interventions, a roundtable was held in Yaoundé on August 11, 2026. This meeting convened young people, government members, the UN system, and other relevant actors. The discussion facilitated a shared understanding of the plan and aimed to streamline efforts in support of Cameroonian youth.

The PNJ is structured around four main axes. Education and training receive the largest allocation, with 334 billion CFA francs designated for human development. Employment and economic integration are allocated 30.2 billion CFA francs, while health and well-being receive 11.6 billion CFA francs. Institutional governance is supported by 10.3 billion CFA francs.

The meeting was presided over by Mounouna Foutsou, the Minister of Youth and Civic Education, and co-organized by the Ministry of Economy. Paul Tasong, Minister Delegate for the Economy, stressed that the plan's success hinges on the involvement of various actors and the integration of youth concerns into public policies. The event underscored the reality that young people are vital partners in development.
