Campaign with your scorecard, Dele Momodu tells Tinubu

Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has advised President Bola Tinubu to base his 2027 re-election campaign on his administration's performance, rather than relying on political rhetoric. Momodu stated that Nigerians will ultimately judge the government by its record in office and that the outcome of the election will depend on how citizens assess the ruling All Progressives Congress's (APC) performance.

The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. Nobody wants to pick him out because they just don’t like him. It is about performance.

Speaking on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily, Momodu emphasized that there is no personal animosity towards President Tinubu. Instead, he argued, the President must convince voters that his administration has delivered tangible results. "Present your scorecards," Momodu urged, suggesting that those focused on negative campaigning should redirect their energy toward showcasing the APC's achievements.

The ADC chieftain also criticized the APC for its continued practice of blaming previous administrations for Nigeria's economic and governance challenges, despite the party having been in power since 2015. Momodu contended that if the Tinubu administration inherited a struggling economy, it should be evaluated based on the steps taken to improve the nation's fortunes. He expressed dismay at a party consistently criticizing its predecessors, stating, "I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC."

Momodu questioned the government's performance, posing the rhetorical question: "Now, let's assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government. He also commented on the recent exchange between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alleging that Obasanjo remains opposed to Abubakar's presidential ambitions.
