Can Tho police deal with man interacting with anti-state websites

Authorities in Can Tho, Vietnam, have summoned a local man for interacting with online content that allegedly contains false and distorting information associated with anti-state actors. The individual, identified as N.B.S., a 37-year-old resident of Lai Hoa commune, was called in by the Lai Hoa Commune Police for engaging with posts and videos from exiled opposition groups targeting the Vietnamese state.

During a meeting on July 31, N.B.S. acknowledged that his interactions stemmed from a lack of awareness regarding the true nature and potential harm of malicious content online. He admitted to engaging with posts and videos containing fabricated information and distortions without fully recognizing their detrimental impact.

The Commune Police have educated Mr. S. on the provisions of the law on ensuring network security, the rights and responsibilities of individuals when participating in social media.

The Commune Police provided N.B.S. with education on legal provisions related to cybersecurity and individual responsibilities when using social media. They analyzed the nature and consequences of commenting on, sharing, or endorsing content that incites, distorts facts, or opposes the state. Following the meeting, N.B.S. reportedly understood the negative impacts and legal ramifications of his actions and committed to adhering to legal regulations, promising not to engage with or share any unlawful content online. The Lai Hoa Commune Police are continuing their investigation to handle the case according to regulations.
