Canada honours U.S. Independence Day with joint fighter jet fly past

Canada is marking the United States' 250th anniversary of independence with a series of gestures underscoring the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations. These commemorative actions include a joint military fly-past over the capital, messages from Prime Minister Mark Carney, and the significant gift of 250 maple trees.

A key event is the ceremonial fly-past scheduled over Ottawa on Saturday evening as part of the city's Fourth of July celebrations. The demonstration will feature two Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18 Hornets flying in formation with two U.S. Air Force F-35 Lightning II fighter jets. The Defence Department stated this joint display symbolizes the robust military partnership maintained through the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

The 250 maple trees will be planted in Washington, D.C., and across the 13 U.S. states that share a border with Canada. Even King Charles III acknowledged the anniversary, highlighting the U.S.-United Kingdom relationship built on "friendship, trust and a belief in liberty, the rule of law and the dignity of all people."
