Canadian midfielder Ismaël Koné has undergone successful surgery for a fractured leg, an injury sustained during the team's World Cup 2026 match against Qatar. The Canadian national team announced Friday that Koné will miss the rest of the tournament.

The injury occurred in the 51st minute of the Group B match in Vancouver. Koné, after a challenge from Assim Madibo, who was subsequently sent off, was seen clutching his left leg. Broadcast images appeared to show his lower tibia bending inward, causing concern among spectators.

This setback occurred shortly after Canada secured its first-ever victory in a World Cup match, defeating Qatar.
