Cancer vaccine successfully tested in the USA - how Kazakhstan is preparing for the new therapy

A personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, intisomeran autogene (V940), has successfully completed Phase 3 trials in the United States for the treatment of melanoma, a type of skin cancer. Developed by pharmaceutical companies, this experimental vaccine is individually tailored to each patient's tumor genetic characteristics. Its purpose is to "train" the patient's immune system to identify and attack cancer cells, especially in individuals who have undergone surgical tumor removal but face a high risk of recurrence.

Oksana Shatkovskaya, Deputy Chairwoman of the Board for Strategy, Science, and Education at the National Scientific Cancer Center, explained the vaccine's distinction from preventive immunizations like the HPV vaccine. Put simply, it teaches the immune system to fight a virus that can cause cancer, whereas personalized mRNA therapy helps the immune system recognize cancer cells that have already emerged," Shatkovskaya noted.
