Cantv retirees protest in Táchira, demanding payment of labor benefits

Retired Cantv employees in Venezuela's Táchira state joined a nationwide peaceful protest, demanding the company fulfill and pay their labor benefits. José Linares, disciplinary president of the Federation of Retirees, stated that the crisis impacts about 11,000 former workers throughout Venezuela, with 471 in the Táchira region alone.

Magaly Delgado, one of the demonstrators, emphasized the need for compliance with the collective contract, especially concerning healthcare. "Many of these people need primary healthcare, long-term medications, and full reimbursement for operations without any objection," Delgado stated, according to Diario La Nación.

The protesters also reported a reduction in their monthly bonus from $200 to $150 two months prior. They are demanding the payment of the difference and the immediate reinstatement of the original amount. The retirees' union has accused the Ombudsman's Office, the Ministry of Labor, and Cantv's management of indifference toward their plight.

This marks the third protest in less than two months. The retirees have warned that demonstrations will continue if they do not receive a satisfactory response from the authorities.
