Captain martyred, 7 terrorists killed in intelligence-based operation in Hangu: ISPR

A captain of the Pakistan Army was martyred and seven terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation in the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated that the operation targeted terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), whom the state designates as Fitna al Khawarij.

According to the ISPR statement, security forces engaged the terrorists following reports of their presence. The militants reportedly took refuge in a mosque, disregarding its sanctity, during the ensuing exchange of fire. The statement identified the killed terrorists as belonging to the "Indian-sponsored Fitna al Khawarij." Captain Hamza Akram, 27, who was leading his troops, was martyred during the operation. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the deceased terrorists, who were allegedly involved in numerous attacks against security forces, law enforcement, and civilians.

In separate incidents, security forces killed 10 terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Eight terrorists died in an encounter in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan when they attempted to attack security checkposts. Two more terrorists were neutralized in the Dir district. Additionally, a key terrorist commander, Jamidullah, identified as a quadcopter expert, was killed during an operation in the Jani Khel area of Bannu district based on intelligence reports.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the martyred captain, offering condolences to his family and stating that the officer had made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies indicates a significant rise in violence in July, marking it as the deadliest month of 2026 with 205 fatalities, including 112 security personnel.
